Waltham Watch Company, also known as the American Waltham Watch Company, was founded in Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1850. This is a beautiful R.R. watch—a vintage Waltham Railroad pocket watch from 1949.
It’s a high-quality manual wind pocket watch, powered by an original Waltham mechanical movement, Grade Vanguard. Featuring 23 jewels, a sub-second hand, and a lever-set design, it is a Model 1908, Size 16s. The movement is finely adjusted for isochronism, temperature, and five specific positions, for a total of eight adjustments. Made in the U.S.A., it embodies precision and craftsmanship.
This open-face watch boasts its original white dial, adorned with black Arabic numerals, a black minute track, and matching blued steel hands. The sub-second hand is positioned at 6 o'clock, set against a bold second track with Arabic numerals at each 10-second interval. The dial is elegantly branded with the Waltham name and "Vanguard 23 Jewels" at the top.
Housed in a 50.8mm round case, this timepiece is crafted from 10K yellow gold fill and features detailed engravings, adding to its classic appeal.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.
We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust the lighting, when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
